Aquaforte
Monday, October 30th, 2006 at 3:44 pmI’m very happy to announce the publication of Aquaforte, the French edition of The Etched City, published by L’Atalante, translated by the wonderful Jean-Francois le Ruyet. The cover is by Gerard Trignac, an artist whose work I saw online here some time ago. I asked L’Atalante if he could do the cover, and they agreed, for which I’m very grateful to them. They’ve done the cover in a lovely textured matte paper, too. This is the first translation I’ve had in a language that I know beyond “hello”, “coffee” and “where’s the toilet?” - and will be the last for TEC, unless by some divine (or other) intervention a Japanese deal happens. You can never translate word for word, and it’s fascinating to read a translated version. It’s even more fascinating when you like the translator’s version of a sentence better than your own.
