A little thing (sketch)

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007 at 8:03 am

I’m usually not satisfied with my skill, either in writing or drawing. This is an exercise in just letting something have its existence and be expressed, however clumsily (perhaps this creature is an expression of clumsiness?). I rather like it. (Though it seems to have simple eyes in the thumbnail that it doesn’t have in the big picture - odd!)

    KJ,
Couldn’t agree with you more about letting all our creations ‘out’, however humble they might be. Your lonely (frightened?) little creature deserves an lLife as much as any divine faery.
    Keep lettin’ ‘em out!

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m sure they all deserve a public life - I just tend to feel I’m not an adequate demiurge. But if I don’t give it a go, who will…so, yeah. :-)

Oh, he’s - she’s? - er, it’s charming! There’s a bizarre amount of personality oozing out of it for something that doesn’t have any facial features.

It looks like it is trying to get warm
that this is really cool lookin

and i thought it was the top of its head

  5. kjbishop Says:

Laurie - I’ve seen completely abstract sculptures that somehow turn themselves into vivid characters when I look at them, and I remember a Walt Disney cartoon where he’d made a faceless flour sack into a totally believable character just through its movements. Maybe I should explore this thing more…

Colin - it could be the top of its head! And it could be trying to get warm. It doesn’t seem comfortable, at any rate.

  6. Colin Says:

It is a rath comfortable way of sitting in open bush or in caves or near a fire

  7. kjbishop Says:

It’s a campfire kind of creature, really.

  8. Colin Says:

it also looks like it has very important things to say but in a voice

    and it eats children

and its name is like Jake

  9. kjbishop Says:

The first and third are very possibly true. But it doesn’t eat children unless they try to eat it first.

  10. Colin Says:

    it eats meat
    so meat is living animals
    animals must be born
    hence it eats children

  11. kjbishop Says:

I don’t think it’s planning to eat that meat-like object it’s looking at - though I admit it’s open to interpretation!
