Minotaur – ‘Fold’ (done)
Monday, November 2nd, 2009 at 10:52 amCopypasting my own critique from DA:
Cobbled 2 or 3 references together here, not counting the bull. Anatomy could be better, hands and hips particularly, and the shadow inside the arms is probably too dark — or else the head needs more texture/detail to draw the eye to it.
And the style of drawing isn’t exactly exciting — I have a ton of trouble getting accuracy and liveliness into one picture (hey, I have enough trouble with accuracy!)
Still, I’m pretty happy with it.

Very nicely rendered. Does it have meaning for you? I think the texture of the paper hurts it a bit because it effects the consistency of the rendering and gets in the way of detailing. Otherwise, very lovely. I like teh closure on teh horns, especially teh (the, dammit) left one.
Also, randomly, I hear bowie was into teh occult. I find this interesting.

womgDICK!
Yeah yeaaaaah I know I’m supposed to put my thinking cap on *g* and tell you my impressions, but mainly I just love the weirdness of it. Hands are pretty damn awesome. Also that’s a very realistic anatomical take on a bovine neck shading into human, meaning it looks like the support structure would hold.
Cool!

Michael – I think you’re right about the paper. I might try the blending stump on the background around the head, just to make the head stand out a bit more.
I find the Minotaur a poignant character, and aesthetically interesting, but I can’t consciously say what this drawing means for me. I think the blindfold signifies secrets, perhaps trust…but whatever its effect is on the viewer is what it means.
Bowie was indeed, or so we are told — don’t know how much he practised in that area, or whether he just read a lot — and how we get from a minotaur with a big dick to David Bowie I have no…actually, I have a pretty good idea. XD
(Michael Cisco? Michael Phillips? Michael other?)
Kirby – I deliberated long and hard over how long and hard to make it. I just tried shading the folds of the bull’s neck into the human collarbones, which seemed to work, though I’d like to try a less realistic minotaur with a really big…head. No reason to drag out any thinking-schminking cap! WomgDICK is succinct, trenchant…

I don’t think the hand dementions are wrong it looks like he is pushing off a wall after a prolonged lounging.
Also nice work on the cock.

I know you mean “dimensions” but “dementions” applies perfectly to the mad business of drawing hands.
Thanks re the cock. I could have done a little more veiny detail, but there’s always next time.

I think you did an excellent job on the hands, for one, as well as making the minotaur seem to ‘pop off’ the page. And now I wish I could say something more intelligent, but I’m afraid that the penis is distracting me.
