Outrepart

Monday, January 4th, 2010 at 10:28 am

Oh, my, only four days into the year and already I’ve found (via Random Index) a devilish enabler of procrastination — Outrepart, a site featuring 100 “astounding images from everywhere”, updated hourly, with links.

A minute there led to a couple of hours looking at, amongst other things –
A regal penis
An ithyphallic Jesus (c.1525)
Crappy taxidermy
Japanese surgical illustrations
The strange and luscious art of Madeline von Foerster
The strange and luscious art of John Brophy
Moose
Undream the Echoes, a blog of macabre and unsettling things
Rob Evans, whose eerie paintings often show strangeness occurring in liminal places between the home and the outdoors, or the domestic and the wild.
A haunting abstract sculpture or installation by Harm van den Dorpel (all troubling and seductive latency)
Captain Jeff and the Squeeze Box, from Curious Pages (recommended inappropriate books for kids)
And MY ALLIGATOR MAN-GOD-THING.

And again from Random Index, the surreal drawings of Walter Schnackenberg.

Well, I guess it’s better than looking at porn or playing Bejeweled.

Interestingly enough, when I picture your Alligator-Man-God-Thing, I picture him as being an exceedingly regal individual, unlike the critter in the pic. That thing looks like it has hairless dog mixed into its genes somewhere.

I admit I also saw my guy as rather less Gollum-like.

I used to have a Weekly World News t-shirt with their famous Batboy.

Speaking of porn (or rather the website you found being better than looking at it), I have stumbled across footage of the grossest hour you’ll ever encounter. I nearly cried.

I had a moment like that a couple of weeks ago. I can’t say I stumbled across it — I mean, I clicked the link. There was just this awful need to know…

Oh my what, that’s terrifying. Updated every *hour*? I just had this terrible vision of being sucked entirely into the Internet, never to emerge… not that that doesn’t already happen on only a slightly smaller scale. gahhh. Although I do think also that things like this are fantastic inspiration – with really curious images like these, it’s hard not to look at one and not instantly see a story or another image. I love how the Internet can make both research material and inspiration instantly available.

I love love Moose and Undream the Echoes; must subscribe to the latter!

I’ve managed not to get completely sucked in, since the updates are gradual — the whole thing only changes every couple of days. Phew!
