WIP – dragon

Monday, August 2nd, 2010 at 9:44 pm

When I was a kid I drew dragons obsessively. I stopped drawing them in art school. This is my first drake in years — lead pencil, digicolour. Perspective’s a bit wonky, but never mind. I need to finish drawing the knight-girl and add some background — probably some wing, maybe landscape. Or a cholera outbreak.

I love how creepy it looks next to the adorable knight. :3

The knight hopes to creep many people out with it :-)

Hey! I did too. I was absolutely obsessed with dragons as a kid. 8D

Hahaha, the little knight looks adorably smug and mischievous.

Do dragons somehow morph into wicked beautiful men as one gets older, I wonder…? :D

I’m trying to keep that look in the finished drawing. Might have to fudge it with the puter.

Needs some dragon riding gear and knight is ready to cause some carnage

She don’t need much gear, just an old scale for a saddle, maybe…though on the other hand, she might have built a cubby house on his back!

Dragon looks so beardy and benevolent! And possibly slightly dim-witted, and possibly outrageously dangerous. (Maybe he breathes cholera.) I love the texture of his scales, and especially the wrinkles around his eyes, and knight is, as everyone said, quite adorable.

I’m trying to remember the progression of what I drew when I was little, and I feel like it was horses, kittens, and raccoons for a while, and then viperfish and unicorns, and then probably Pokemon…

Dragon is possibly all of the above!

Viperfish look rather tricky, though perhaps not as tricky as horses. For me, before dragons it was weird critters inspired by the Muppet Show and Dr Seuss and Brian Froud. I just gave up on horses, I think!

Ah, I remember drawing pathetic 2d dragons as a kid. Fond memories, those.

And I totally want that dragon as a pet, cholera or no.

No such thing as a pathetic dragon!
