So, in Mad Ancestor I’ve got two stories that use the plural of ‘medusa’. One uses ‘medusas’ and the other ‘medusae’. I left the difference, but now that I’m making the print version I wonder if I should choose one or the other after all.
These are the things that keep me up at night.
Hm. I’d never considered medusa having a plural before. I like medusae. But … in some situations medusas might sound better. Hm. Now it’s going to keep me up at night too.
It’s all the fault of the English language for being messy and having too many choices!
They’re different spellings rather than different forms (using an a to replace a joined ae) – aren’t they? I guess, given that, I’d change it unless there’s a reason for indicating higher brow and less high brow between the stories. I am full of opinions today!
It is just different spellings. I changed it! They’re both medusae now. I’ll see if that lasts the day. Sometimes I get ridiculously paralysed by choice. Which is ok when I’m shopping, because I fail to buy things and save money, but not so good when I’m writing.
